An Autecological Theory of the Firm and its Environment
Colin Jones and Gimme Walter
Extract
In the Introduction to this work, we observed there is more than one theory of the firm, and that each one serves a particular purpose within different subdomains of organizational research (Alvarez, 2003). What is missing in the theory of the firm is any true consideration of the individual firm, and its operating environment. Even in the resource-based theory of the firm, we need to reference other firms to enable judgments of competitive advantage to be made.
