Restricted access

This chapter provides a framework through which to explore fisheries and ocean governance. The chapter focuses on the nexus between fisheries, the international law of the sea and governance. The chapter identifies challenges for distant-water fisheries, oceans enclosures under the law of the sea, emergence of marine environmental conservation and sustainable development through the post UNCED framework. It highlights the new challenges identified at the RIO+20 forum and subsequently in the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals, climate change and food security.
