Chapter 3 Perspectives on AI and work
Restricted access

In chapter 3, we present current research into AI systems in the workplace. We discuss existing theories and perspectives around AI and work, laying the foundation for the case-based chapters. Using tasks as the unit of analysis, we describe where the greatest changes are expected with regard to work and organizations. In addition, we discuss current developments around 'responsible AI'. We explain that the recent shift in focus toward responsible AI is a response to, and anticipation of, the uncertainty surrounding the consequences of AI systems on work, organizations, and society as a whole. A central point in all the studies we review in this chapter is that little is known from practice. What really happens in organizations that have chosen to develop and implement AI systems?
