Chapter Five examines how Action Research and PAR form the heritage from which ART has developed and how ART furthers the movement of participative change. The schools of thought that brought about Action Research as a whole are examined. With this background, the components necessary for ART are detailed: relational space, experience, having an open mind that is not biased solely by intellectualism, and coming into a space together without defenses. A future vision - set in 2052 - is proposed as a way to guide ART.
