The purpose of this chapter is to analyze how European Union (EU) Structural Funds protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities living in EU Member States. EU Structural Funds programmes aim to develop infrastructure, support the provision of innovative services and provide investment for education initiatives. There is significant potential for the funds to be used to improve accessibility and increase inclusive education and equal employment opportunities. The specific objective of this chapter is to analyze the extent to which the current round of Structural Funds programmes are being used to promote the rights of persons with disabilities. As the current programmes are coming to an end, the chapter concludes by speculating how the 2021-2027 round of new Structural and Cohesion Funds Programmes will fight social exclusion and improve accessibility across the Union.
