Chapter 20 Teaching and learning with our colleagues: the Associate Professor Development Programme at Copenhagen Business School
Restricted access

Associate professors are a crucial group in the modern business school with a key role in developing research (including research funding), teaching and administration. This chapter describes and discusses one attempt to develop a professional development programme targeted specifically at this group. How does one create such a programme and run it in a suitable fashion? Following a presentation of the Associate Professor Development Programme (APDP) at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), some key lessons are drawn for future practice. Whilst there are inevitably questions and challenges with regard to the design and operation of the APDP, it is argued that it provides a valuable space for reflection and the identification of practical steps for career development. The programme also offers a way of developing a sense of identity and 'academic citizenship' at a business school-wide level.
