Chapter 29 Boat trip adventure changing the lives of thousands: the story of Song Saa Private Island
Restricted access

This case study presents the Song Saa Private Island, which provides a perfect mix of luxury tourism and conservation of the local environment and community. Since the resort first opened its doors to international visitors, it has been addressing environmental, economic, and socio-cultural aspects of sustainability, by contributing to protecting the planet, ending poverty, and providing an equal opportunity for everyone. The resort and its sister NGO, Song Saa Foundation, are conserving the environment by building with eco-friendly, low impact materials; educating tourists and locals; recycling the water and waste; producing organic food; purchasing local products, such as ceramics, arts, décor, and food; and supporting the community by educating children and providing medical care.
