Chapter 4 International cooperation in merger cases

Since the Commission acquired competence in the field of merger control with the adoption of the EU Merger Regulation in 1989, it has developed close cooperative relations with a number of third country competition authorities in its practical application of the Regulation. This is useful - and in fact necessary - to account for the increasing number and scope of cross-border merger cases as a result of globalization, digitalization and the proliferation of competition authorities.
