This opening chapter outlines the purpose, organization, and contents of this edited compilation of 17 chapters, which is titled the Field Guide to Family Business Research. This introduction focuses on the foundational challenges associated with family business research, as a unique field of study, and discusses how the guidance provided in this book can help overcome many of the more prominent problems keeping scholars from producing rigorous, high-quality, and publishable research.
