Mindful leaders are ordinary people who see clearly the road ahead of them. Across the legal profession, they include law students, lawyers, entrepreneurs, business people, members of Congress, and anyone who influences outcomes and decision making - big and small. Understanding and practicing mindfulness enhances leadership skills and decisions through the cultivation of qualities such as self-awareness, focus, patience, emotional regulation, integrity and ethics, and empathy. At the same time, developing a mindfulness practices itself is a call for self-leadership - a willingness to engage in self-discovery, to turn attention inward and to experience the present moment as it is, especially when we wish it were different. Great leaders know that these qualities are available to anyone, and mindfulness practices and the insights that accompany them are a powerful means to achieve this noble end.
