Responsible management rests upon the assumption that business is conducted ethically, that performance is more than achieving short-term profit goals. Leadership is needed to help managers develop, maintain, and cultivate environments where individuals can stand up for what they believe is right. To enable this call to action, a strength-based approach to responsible management is needed. This chapter addresses this concern by describing the concept of professional moral courage (PMC). Moral competencies, skills that support the ability to exercise PMC when facing an ethical challenge, are also outlined. The chapter is designed to help teachers and leaders embrace moral strength and to better understand how to develop and support it in the workplace.
